Nicklaus Children'S Health System and Philips Ink 10-Year Partnership

A Florida hospital has become the first in the US to use a "virtually free" MRI scanner.

As part of a partnership with Philips, Nicklaus Children's Health System will be adopting the Ambition X MR scanner, which eliminates the need for ongoing helium refills and allows for quick discharge or re-energization, as well as EasySwitch, which allows for a smooth and swift discharge or re-energization of the magnet, the Miami Herald reports.

"This means understanding that you cannot just make a smaller version of an adult radiology solution," says Matthew Love, president and CEO of Nicklaus Children's Health System.

"More importantly, if we can make things fun for our patients, and that sick kids don't necessarily stay still for studies, we can alleviate some of the stress quantification they and their families may be feeling as part of the treatment process."

A child-sized MRI replica will also be used to help kids understand the procedure, as well as educational games and cartoon characters to help them visualize the MRI procedure in a non-threatening way, according to a press release.

Nicklaus Children's is also adopting AI-powered ultrasound systems, which "automated 10-20% diagnostic times by 10% to 20%, leading to faster 2D imaging exams and
