Great Success for Program Dealing with Youth Trauma

credit:

According to a report conducted by the Child Health and Development Institute of Connecticut (CHDI), it finds that the Bounce Back program is successful in helping young children in Connecticut deal with trauma.

The report notes that 93 percent of children who begin Bounce Back finish the program, which is a higher rate than children who attend programs in their communities.

According to the report, kids who participate also show a 75 percent reduction in PTSD symptoms.

However, the report indicates that the program is used in just 39 of more than 600 elementary schools in the area. The aim is to have more children learn about common reactions to trauma, relaxation strategies and coping and problem solving skills, among many others.

CHDI is funded by the State Department of Children and Families, which offers training, consultation and data reporting for Bounce Back at no cost to participating schools.

Bounce Back plans to expand and is coming to schools in Waterford and Norwich this fall.
