The Cherokee Nation recently was the recipient of a one million dollar grant. The purpose of the grant is to fund efforts to increase the amount of youth enrolled in health care programs such as Medicaid and Medicare.
The grant provides funds to hire four additional counselors and corresponding educational programs that are targeted at informing the Cherokee Nation's children and parents about all of the benefits associated with these health care programs. Principle Chief John Baker sums up the priorities of the grant when he said, "Health has been the number one priority of this administration."
