"It's a disheartening reality that marginalized communities, particularly low income or communities of color, or those with cognitive and intellectual disabilities, have frequently been relegated to subpar facilitiestold to settle for less than they deserve," Metrocare CEO Dr. John Burruss says in a press release about a new mental health center being built in Dallas.
The 45,000-square-foot Hillside Campus will include a new 45,000-square-foot mental health clinic, which will offer care to children, adults, families, veterans, and those with disabilities, the Dallas Morning News reports.
"These cutting-edge facilities will be vital in eradicating the stigma and shame that has long plagued public mental health care," Burruss says.
"It's long overdue to invest in our community."
The facility will also include outdoor therapy areas for children, a tranquility garden, an outdoor terrace, and bright, open spaces for clinical services, per the press release.
The new clinic is expected to open in the fall of 2025.
