How Lego Is Helping Boost Students' Literacy and Numeracy Outcomes

When Dr. Denise Meyerson took her 3-year-old to her first "Six Bricks" kindergarten class in Sydney, Australia, she didn't expect to leave with such a profound impact on the child's life.

But that's exactly what happened.

Meyerson is one of just four master trainers in the world who have been trained in the LEGO Serious Play methodology, which she has adapted for children ages 3 to 11, reports The Educator.

The foundation's website explains that the Six Bricks method "promotes sensory play, speech and language development, cognitive growth, and social skills" and "provides an engaging alternative to screen time, activating young minds through play and encouraging face-to-face interactions that nurture creativity and essential interpersonal skills."

A press release explains that "the fundamental purpose of Six Bricks is to ensure that children of all abilities can actively participate in gaining new skills through play."

To that end, "the hundreds of activities that make up the Six Bricks method are designed to motivate children to gain the skills they need to excel all the way through their school career."
