For more than 75 years, Bess Truman has made an annual visit to Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC, to see families who couldn't be with their kids over the holidays.
This year, President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden made their third visit as part of a holiday tradition, per a press release from the hospital.
They were joined by 10-year-old Samukh Arunkumar, who is being treated for acute myeloid leukemia.
"It truly warmed my heart to see just how meaningful this visit is for our patients and their families during the holidays," says the CEO of Children's National.
Jill read Clement Clark Moore's "Twas the Night Before Christmas," a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the book's publication.
The president and first lady also visited the hospital's Gingerbread White House, which featured a depiction of the story in 2023.
"This was the First Lady's way of bringing a bit of the White House holiday celebration to kids in the hospital, as a group of patients and families gathered in front of the Christmas tree to hear the timeless tale," says the release.
