When Nemours Children's Health in St.
Petersburg, Fla., opened a $100 million, state-of-the-art children's hospital in 2015, it was supposed to be a model for other children's hospitals around the country.
Instead, it's "one of the most under-performing children's hospitals in the country," according to a press release from the hospital.
And that's not even mentioning the fact that it's one of just four children's hospitals in the country to be named a "model" for other children's hospitals by the Children's Health Foundation, a not-for-profit that aims to raise the bar for children's hospitals around the world.
In fact, Nemours is the first children's hospital in the US to be named a model for other children's hospitals, Child Health News reports.
"If we want to save lives, we have to start with children," the hospital's president and CEO tells the Florida Times-Union.
"We have to start with the most vulnerable members of our population."
