Mmc Receives 'Maine Always Ready for Children' Recognition

"No one ever wants to see a child ill or injured, but hospital and clinical providers do want to ensure that they are well prepared when the situation does arise," Maine Emergency Medical System for Children program manager Marc Minkler says in a press release.

That's why Maine Medical Center has become the first hospital in the state to receive the "Maine Always Ready for Children" award, which recognizes hospitals that have gone the extra mile to make sure they're ready to deal with any kind of pediatric emergency.

The EMS for Children program, which works with hospitals in all six New England states, New York, and New Jersey, runs the award, which is based on metrics including "assessing, treating, and stabilizing pediatric medical and traumatic emergencies," per a press release.

"The dedication of the Emergency Department and Trauma Services staff, along with hospital leadership, shows a commitment to high quality and family centric care," Minkler says in the press release.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, Emergency Nurses Association, and the American College of Emergency Physicians created the award, which is given to hospitals at the Pediatric Ready, Pediatric Engaged, and Pediatric Innovator levels, depending on their commitment to these metrics.
