Those are the words of Mary Beth Sewald, president and CEO of the Vegas Chamber of Commerce, endorsing legislation introduced Tuesday by Democratic Sen.
Jacky Rosen of Nevada and Republican Sen.
Joni Ernst of Iowa, the Current reports.
Their Small Business Child Care Investment Act would expand the types of federal loan programs available to non-profit child care providers.
For-profit child care providers have access to larger and more flexible loan programs, whereas non-profit providers are limited to the SBA's microloan programseven if they would otherwise be eligible, Rosen's office notes.
"Access to child care is one of the primary barriers preventing the potential workforce from converting to the active workforce in our region," Sewald says in a statement.
"And when they can't work, they can't afford the basic necessities.

The bill has the support of several Nevada business leaders, including Ann Silver, CEO of the Reno + Sparks Chamber of Commerce.
