"Every child has the opportunity to thrive upon school entry." That's the lofty goal of Australia's Paul Ramsay Foundation, which this week announced $8.6 million in grants to 18 projects aimed at helping young children and families, reports the Guardian.
The grants, awarded under the foundation's Strengthening Early Years program, "focus on the critical importance of the developmental period between [a child's] conception and [his or her] two-year-old life," per a press release.
Some of the projects include "culturally appropriate antenatal programs, support for mothers and children escaping domestic and family violence, First Nations-focused playgroups, as well as programs focused on building resources, workforce knowledge, and capability," per the release.
"We were impressed by the range of innovative approaches within these programs designed to strengthen relationships between parents or caregivers and children, which we know is extremely important," says PRF's head of early childhood.
