Researchers in the Dominican Republic have come up with an innovative way to track child development, and they've won the country's top public innovation award.
The researchers came up with the idea for the Dominican Child Development Measurement System, or Simedid, which collects data on kids in child-care centers and posts it on the government's website, reports the New York Times.
It's the first such system of its kind in the world, according to a press release.
Researchers at the National Institute for Comprehensive Care for Early Childhood also won second place in the category of "Innovation in Public Policies and Services."
