Parents in Denver have a new choice when it comes to their children's public schools.
Valley View Innovation School has opened its new 60,000-square-foot campus in the city's Mapleton neighborhood, the Denver Post reports.
It's the 18th school built by the Neenan Company for Mapleton Public Schools, per a press release, and it's the first one to feature a project-based learning model.
Instead of a standard zoning structure, each of the school's three podsfour flexible classrooms, two immersion studios for robotics, technology, culinary arts, arts, music, and science, and a cafeteriaboasts its own unique features, including a gym, cafeteria, art room, science rooms, music room, and preschool classrooms.
"The transformation of Valley View Innovation School will help empower students to steer their educational experiences, developing a lifelong appreciation for curiosity and active learning," says Brian Carnahan, the architect at Neenan, which also designed the district's new high school.
The school's immersion studios feature a lab-like structure that can be used for robotics, technology, culinary arts, arts, music, and science, as well as a media center and broadcast lab.
