Culver Academies Students Propose Ways To Help Feed Children In Need

Students at an Indiana boarding school have come up with a novel way to raise money for a non-profit that provides food to kids who qualify for free or reduced lunch during the summer.

As part of an innovation class at the Ron Rubin School for the Entrepreneur at Culver Academies, students were given 10 minutes to come up with a fundraising plan for Blessings in a Backpack, reports the Chicago Tribune.

The idea? Start a golf tournament and run a 5k run that hadn't been held since the Covid-19 pandemic.

They also put QR codes on posters, placed pizza boxes with the codes on them, and passed out information on social media, among other ideas.

The two winning proposals were Hungry Helpers and Visionaries.

Blessings in a Backpack, founded by philanthropist Lance Breitstein, is the first high school collaboration of its kind from the prestigious Impact Competition.

"We have never done this before at the high school level," Breitstein tells the Tribune.

"The more we got to know Culver and the quality of the programming, the mission, the values of the school, and more than anything the caliber of the students, it became a no-brainer to know that you all could pull it off well."
