"Too many children in our state have been impacted in some way by the struggles of their loved ones facing addiction," says New Jersey Gov.
Phil Murphy in announcing a $2 million pilot program to help children and families affected by the opioid crisis.
The Child Trauma Response Initiative will train law enforcement officers and community members on how to recognize and interact with children and families affected by addiction, then link them to services they need, the Star-Ledger reports.
"By recognizing these hidden victims of addiction and intervening to help them and their families get the assistance they need, law enforcement can play a key role in reversing the long-lasting and destructive ripple effects," says Acting Attorney General Matthew J.
Platkin.
The program will launch in three pilot municipalities in Cumberland, Monmouth, and Union counties.
