House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has become the latest member of Congress to fall victim to the Covid-19 virus, which he contracted while he was vaccinated.
"This afternoon, I tested positive for Covid-19, and I am experiencing mild symptoms," Hoyer said in a statement.
"Thankfully, I am fully vaccinated and already received my booster shot."
Hoyer, a Maryland Democrat, said he would continue to work and cast votes from home while the House is in session this week, the Hill reports.
Several other members of Congress have contracted the virus, which causes flu-like symptoms and, in some cases, paralysis of the brain and spinal cord.
House Speaker John Boehner has also fallen victim to the virus.
