Mississippi Reports Percentage Drop of Obese and Overweight Children
Foundation: Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, Johnson Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
The Center for Mississippi Health Policy reported that obesity and overweight rates for all students in all grades have leveled off, with a significant 13 percent drop from 2005 to 2011 in obesity and overweight among elementary school children in Mississippi.
The nation's largest healthcare foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, singled out the Community Foundation's "Healthy Kid; Healthy Communities" program at a national meeting for its effectiveness in reducing childhood obesity in Northwest Mississippi.
