"Access to quality, affordable early learning opportunities sets kids up for long-term success."
So says Michigan Gov.
Gretchen Whitmer in announcing $2 million in funding for 12 apprenticeships in the state's child care field.
The money is part of the state's "Caring for MI Future" plan, which aims to open or expand 1,000 child care programs by the end of 2024, reports Fox 17.
The apprenticeships are in Early Care and Education, and the state says they'll help lower the barriers to hiring and retaining staff.
"We recognize the vital role that highly skilled child care providers play in supporting working families across the state," says Ryan Hundt, CEO of Michigan Works!, one of the organizations receiving money.
