"Over the duration of my medical career, I have witnessed incredible advancements in American medical innovation," says Rep.
John Joyce, a Democrat from Washington state.
"It's critical that we continue to support the research and innovation that is helping to save children's lives."
That's why Joyce has introduced the Pediatricians Accelerate Childhood Therapies Act of 2023, a bipartisan bill that would authorize the director of the National Institutes of Health to award grants supporting science and research focusing on pediatric care, the Seattle Times reports.
The bill was introduced by Rep.
Kim Schrier, a Republican from Washington state.
"As a pediatrician, my career has been focused on children's health and I understand that pediatric specific research leads to the development of the next generation of treatments that can save the lives of children," Schrier says in a press release.
If passed, the bill would amend the Public Health Service Act to authorize the director of the NIH to award grants.
