The KFC Foundation Awards $500K To 50 Nonprofits

"It's extra meaningful to celebrate these non-profits during the Colonel's birthday month," says Emma Horn, executive director of the KFC Foundation, which this year awarded a record $500,000 in Kentucky Fried Wishes grants to 50 deserving non-profit organizations across the US.

The grants, awarded through the KFC Foundation's community-based grant program, encourage eligible KFC restaurant employees to positively impact their local communities by nominating a non-profit organization to receive $10,000 to support a community development project, per a press release.

The Family and Children's Association in Long Island, NY, received a grant to fund an outdoor healing garden, which will improve the mental and physical well-being of residents.

Community Bike Works in Allentown, Pa., will use the grant to purchase bicycle helmets and tools for bicycle mechanic training for students in its Earn a Bike program, which teaches life skills by helping students turn broken bikes into functional ones.

Live Like Madison in Laurinburg, NC, will use the grant to fund toy chests for children's hospitals in the area.
