Kensington and Chelsea “innovative” in protecting vulnerable children

A London council has come under fire for its handling of an influx of Afghan and Ukraine children seeking asylum in the UK, and now the country's children's advocate is calling for an investigation, the Guardian reports.

The children in question are between the ages of 6 and 16, and they're living with relatives in the Kensington and Chelsea borough, which has been criticized for its handling of the situation.

The children are generally placed in local schools, but the Guardian notes that many of them are out of the area, making it harder for them to get access to services they might otherwise have access to.

In addition to the children's advocate calling for an investigation, the Evening Standard reports that the Kensington and Chelsea council has also been criticized for its treatment of the children's parents, who may not be allowed to stay in the UK if they want the children to stay.

The Evening Standard notes that one of the children in question, a 14-year-old boy, was reportedly kicked out of his school after refusing to take part in an after-school program.

The boy's parents are suing the Kensington and Chelsea council for allegedly failing to prevent their son's removal from the area.
