A new initiative has been put out by the Southeast Missouri State University to tackle early intensive intervention for preschool aged children. Called "building blocks," the program applies the research of applied behavior scientists in a preschool setting to children who have behavior or attention issues, specializing in children who suffer from autism.
The program consists of a twice weekly 1 hour session, with the lessons cleverly designed to seem like games and challenges; keeping the children stress free and engaged in the goal. The program has been extremely successful, enabling children to enter a classroom for the first time without having difficulties. Some of the children enrolled in the program have even chosen the therapies as their favorite thing to do, showcasing how effective the program can be.
